For attendees of the 2023 CLO Symposium, Day 1 felt like returning to summer camp after a long year — or four — of not seeing your favorite camp buddies.
Festivities began Sunday evening with the 13th annual LearningElite Awards Gala, where 59 learning and development organizations were honored for their outstanding achievements in learning and development, including KPMG LLP, this year’s recipient of the prestigious LearningElite Organization of the Year award.

Monday’s sessions kicked off with a welcome address from Chief Learning Officer’s editor-in-chief and chief content officer, Ashley St. John, followed by a keynote by Kevin M. Yates, the L&D detective, about solving the mysteries of learning metrics and measurement.

Attendees spent the rest of the afternoon choosing from a variety of sessions to attend, including workshops on topics such as transitioning to a skills-based learning strategy and cracking the code to make workforces more future-ready, as well as Monday’s CLO PowerHour, which focused on the topic of workplace transformation and leadership across an ever-evolving business landscape.

Monday concluded with the 21st annual Learning in Practice Awards Ceremony, where 66 learning leaders were honored for their work designing and delivering exemplary employee development programs, including this year’s CLO of the Year, Michelle Braden, vice president of global talent development for WEX Inc.
